"Y'all are a bunch of crooks! I'm not playing your games", you scream as you stand and stride for the door, raising your voice so everyone in the showroom hears you. After you leave, an awkward silence hangs in the air before everyone hesitantly goes back to what they were doing. Just another day in the auto business, every dealership employee in the room thinks.

Our sins? Well, where do we even begin? First, we weren't "willing to work with you" and agree to your offer of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Your number was well-researched and perfectly reasonable, goddamnit. The internet told you so. Only morons pay the price we're asking. And those payments! There is NO WAY IN HELL you're paying more than $150/month for that truck. You only paid $250/month when you bought your Bindersnatch Shiftbox Sport ten years ago.

Then, came the straw that broke the camel's back. You caught us trying to steal your trade. Our offer was a couple thousand below KBB dealer retail. What do we think you are, an idiot? You weren't born yesterday. Your custom spoiler and rims are worth more than that! We're rolling in our !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Surely, we can do better than that.

You know what, never mind. You can't take any more of this. You're done. You'll go to the next place, where your friend is the owner/president/GM/detailer. We're just like the last five dealers you've been to: all crooks and thieves. Wait til !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! hears about this.

Edit: Disclaimer: This post is a caricature of the stereotypes salespeople hold of bad customers.

Blatant strawmanning and exaggeration, 5 yards, repeat the down. Also butthurt.

I won't deny there are bad customers out there in droves, but given that we've had articles on them too, and that the "bad dealership" stories through Steve et al address real issues, let's not make this "Y'all are a bunch of whining dillholes!" to counteract a perceived excess of "Y'all are a bunch of crooks!".

I mean, it's almost like you've confused Oppo with the Front Page.

Oh come now. I've written about both sides of the coin. This is obvious caricature of a small segment of buyers.

It's sometimes hard to keep track of who's written what. Your obvious caricature notwithstanding, I've seen responses to FP'ed Oppo posts that feature your caricature argument applied with no humor at all to all buyers as "that's why we salespeople are that way". An apologia that leaves me wary of whether people are joking or not.

When I discover that my car salesman has any knowledge whatsoever of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, I politely excuse myself noting that I'm overdue for my croquet match. I SAID 'GOOD DAY, SIR."

It is a concentration of lots of things I've heard over three years. Each of these is a separate characteristic applied to our, the salespeople's, stereotype of the bad customer.

"Wait til Yelp hears about this."

Fixed it for you.
